Meet Our Director Monique Mathis
Hello, my name is Monique Mathis, and I am honored to join the Willowbrae family.
I have more than 20 years of experience in early childhood education, along with an associate degree, a Director's Certification, and five years of experience serving as a center director. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to ongoing professional development by participating in various professional organizations and continuing education opportunities. I also have extensive knowledge in Early Childhood Education guidelines and early childhood best practices.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of working in many different roles, from an infant teacher to serving in a public school district and high school settings, and most recently as a center director. Each experience has strengthened my passion for helping children reach their fullest potential.
I believe every child deserves the opportunity to succeed. My goal is to ensure children develop across all five developmental domains while reaching important milestones in a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment. Watching children learn, grow, and build confidence is what inspired me to pursue a career in early childhood education.
I chose Willowbrae because I was impressed by its commitment to children and families. I appreciate the multiple curricula used to meet children where they are developing and the focus on differentiating instruction to support every child's unique learning style. I also value the family-centered approach because I believe that strong partnerships between families and educators are the foundation of a successful early childhood program.
Children learn best through play. As they explore, they develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, physically, and linguistically. Creating a safe, loving, and supportive environment allows children to thrive while giving families peace of mind, knowing their children are well cared for each day.
My passion for early childhood education is also personal. As a child, I was not eligible to attend Head Start because my family did not meet the income qualifications. Later in life, I had the privilege of working in Head Start, where I witnessed firsthand the life-changing opportunities the program provides. That experience reinforced my belief that every child deserves encouragement, support, and opportunities to believe in themselves, grow, and succeed.
Outside of work, I am the proud mother of three wonderful children. All of them are successfully pursuing their own careers and dreams. My two daughters are currently attending college, one is studying to become a teacher, and the other is pursuing a career in nursing. My son has chosen a career as a professional truck driver. Watching each of them grow into successful adults has been one of my greatest blessings.
When I'm not at work, I enjoy cooking, spending quality time with my family, church and occasionally taking time for myself to relax and recharge.
Although I am new to the Willowbrae community, I already feel welcomed with open arms, and I am excited to build relationships with our children, families, staff, and community partners. I believe in working together to create meaningful opportunities for every child and family we serve.
Please feel free to stop by the office and introduce yourself. I look forward to getting to know each of you and partnering with you to make this a wonderful year!
Our Curriculum
Willowbrae Academy’s curriculum is the heart of what we provide for our children. The curriculum is based on three proven methods of learning: Montessori, High Scope and Emergent. Through our customized developmental programs, our activities are linked to specific learning areas ensuring parents that each activity has purpose.
Montessori
High Scope
Emergent
Montessori focuses on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development. Children choose how they want to learn.
High Scope supports the belief that children learn the best when they participate actively in the learning process. Active participatory learning is a partnership between teachers and children.
Emergent is a curriculum based on the child and teacher's interest and passion. Flexibility and creativity are key compounds.
Learning Areas
At Willowbrae Childcare Academy Georgetown in Texas, our responsibility to the children in our care is to make every day a new experience and challenge. Our curriculum includes key learning areas designed to enable children to learn about themselves, others and the world around them.
Children are exposed to a socially inclusive and culturally sensitive environment, where social responsibility is nurtured. Children are taught to respect diversity and appreciate their own uniqueness and that of others. Children learn how to be emphatic, co-operative, helping, and how to develop friendships.
Social Skills and Diversity
Children experience a safe and caring environment where their emotional health, positive self-identities and sense of belonging are fostered. Children develop a sense of self and a sense of others. Children learn to form trusting, respectful relationships.
Emotional Skills
Children experience open and flexible environments where playful exploration and problem solving are encouraged. Children test their limits, learn the dynamics of working together, and develop different strategies to identify and work out problems. Children also learn to question, observe and inquire about the world around them.
Cognitive Abilities
Children experience intellectually, socially and culturally engaging environments where their speech, language, literacy and social communication skills are valued and supported. These skills are developed through classroom activities, peer interaction, and active play.
Communication, Language and Literacy
Children experience safe and caring environments where physical health and positive lifestyle choices are promoted and encouraged. Children explore body and movement, develop gross and fine motor skills, learn about food and nutrition, and are taught to take responsibility for personal care.
Physical Health
Children are exposed to open and flexible environments where imagination and creativity are encouraged through dramatic play, music, dance, arts and crafts. Children create imaginary scenarios in which they explore new possibilities. Children are encouraged to create something new and original.

Preschool Room
Infancy is a wondrous period of growth and exploration. Our infant programs focus on building meaningful relationships with our families, built on trust, care and attention. By recognizing and acknowledging the needs of each individual child, infants feel secure and safe in their environment and thus creates a strong foundation to support the rapidly developing social, emotional and physical needs of infants while they explore the world around them.
While the focus is still largely on their primary care, toddlers begin to take their first steps towards greater independence. We promote their development through play and natural exploration of their surroundings. We begin to lay the basis for positive social interaction and support their positive relationships with peers. We focus on using our words, being gentle with our friends, sharing, and turn taking.
Preschool rooms are equipped with age and developmentally appropriate learning materials and activities reflect the interests of the group and are often child directed. We encourage and promote positive social interaction and develop the many tools necessary to ensure a positive transition to “big” school and a lifelong love of learning.
